Beverage executive attempts to repel tariff on soft drinks

Telling Congress to “stay out of our grocery cart,” Susan K. Neely and her group, the American Beverage Association, announced July 10 the launch of Americans Against Food Taxes, a coalition formed in response to recent reports that lawmakers are still considering a tax on sugary drinks to help fund the health care bill working through Congress. The “sugar-sweetened beverage” tax was listed in both a December Congressional Budget Office report and a May 18 Senate Committee on Finance media release as an option to underwrite a health care overhaul.
